Mission Overview

The LVM-3 (GSLV Mk III), developed by the Indian Space Research Organization, launched the Chandrayaan-2 mission from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in India on July 22, 2019, at 09:13 AM UTC. The rocket placed the Chandrayaan-2 spacecraft in lunar orbit.

The Chandrayaan-2 payload consists of an orbiter, lander, and rover designed to collect scientific information on the lunar surface. The orbiter will map the lunar surface, while the lander will conduct experiments on Moon-quakes, thermal properties, and lunar surface plasma. The six-wheeled rover, weighing around 20 kg, will perform lunar surface chemical analysis and relay data back to Earth through the orbiter.
