Mission Overview
Vega-C is set to launch Altius from the Guiana Space Centre, French Guiana, on December 31, 2028, at 12:00 AM UTC, with Avio S.p.A as the launch provider. The mission will target a Sun-Synchronous Orbit, and Avio S.p.A's Vega-C launch vehicle will carry the Altius payload. The Guiana Space Centre was chosen as the launch site for this mission, and Avio S.p.A will oversee the launch of the Vega-C rocket. The Vega-C launch vehicle is scheduled to deliver the Altius mission into its targeted orbit.
Aboard the rocket, the Altius payload, an Earth Science satellite, is designed to monitor the distribution and evolution of stratospheric ozone in the Earth's atmosphere, and it will be operated by the Belgian Institute for Space Aeronomy. The Altius mission's Sun-Synchronous Orbit is intended to support its objectives, and Avio S.p.A's Vega-C launch vehicle will propel the satellite into this orbit. The Belgian Institute for Space Aeronomy will utilize the data gathered by the Altius satellite to expand its understanding of the Earth's atmosphere, specifically focusing on the stratospheric ozone layer, and Avio S.p.A's Vega-C rocket will play a crucial role in placing the satellite into its desired orbit.
